Our process

How AMP Renewables works — from first enquiry to handover

The honest version. Six steps, fixed-price quotes, in-house engineers, all paperwork handled. Whether you're installing solar, a heat pump, a battery, an EV charger, a boiler or air conditioning — the process below is what happens.

The six-step process

From first call to ten-year aftercare

Six honest steps. No high-pressure sales between any of them.

  1. 01
Within 7 working days of enquiry

    Free initial survey

A qualified AMP engineer visits the property — typically 60-90 minutes on-site. We measure roof aspect, shading, electrical supply capacity, hot water cylinder type, heat loss (for heat pump enquiries), garden/outdoor space (for heat pump or EV install), and existing system documentation. We listen to what you actually want — savings, backup, decarbonisation, future EV plans — and we tell you which mix of services fits.

    • A pragmatic conversation, photographs of the property for later reference, and a clear sense of what your install will involve.
  2. 02
    2-3 working days after survey

    Designed system + fixed-price quote

We design the system around your survey data and electricity usage. For solar, that means a 3D shading model and month-by-month generation projection specific to your roof aspect. For heat pumps, a full room-by-room heat loss calculation per Heat Geek methodology, designed flow temperatures, and emitter compatibility assessment. The quote is fixed-price, itemised line by line, valid for 90 days.

    • A written quote you can take to other installers for comparison. No high-pressure follow-up. No "today only" pricing tricks.
  3. 03
    4-8 weeks

    Paperwork — grants, DNO, MCS

Once you accept the quote, we handle every piece of paperwork. £7,500 BUS grant application to Ofgem for heat pumps. G98 or G99 notification to Northern Powergrid for solar, battery and EV charger installs. OZEV chargepoint grant application where eligible. MCS pre-registration. Building Control notification for boiler swaps and heat pumps. Listed building or conservation area consent where the property needs it. You sign one piece of paper at the start; we handle the rest.

    • A planned install date and full paperwork trail — typically held back from you so you don't have to track it. We send a status email weekly while things move.
  4. 04
1-3 days on site (residential), 4-12 weeks (commercial)

    Install

Our own MCS / NICEIC / Gas Safe / Heat Geek certified engineers complete the install. Same people who designed the system, on your roof and in your plant room. We work around your schedule — early starts and late finishes both available where you need them. Scaffolding (for solar) comes up the day before; panels and inverter installed day 1; commissioning, DNO notification, and handover on day 2 for a typical solar install. Heat pumps run longer.

    • A working system, commissioned to designed performance, with everything tidy and rubbish removed.
  5. 05
Within 10 working days of install

    Handover and registration

We hand over user guides, monitoring app logins, manufacturer warranty documentation, and any retained paperwork (MCS certificate, BUS voucher receipt, DNO acknowledgement, Building Regulations completion). For solar customers we help you switch to a Smart Export Guarantee tariff. For battery customers we help you switch to a time-of-use import tariff. For heat pump customers we run through controls, weather compensation settings and how the system is meant to behave.

    • A folder of paperwork, a phone in your hand showing live generation/consumption data, and a clear understanding of what you have.
  6. 06
    Ongoing — 10-year workmanship guarantee

    Aftercare

We monitor your system remotely through the manufacturer cloud platforms. If we spot underperformance, we contact you before you contact us. If you have a question or fault, you call the same office that signed your quote — not a national call centre. Annual service contracts available for heat pumps and air conditioning where statutory or warranty-required. Otherwise zero ongoing commitment.

    • A working system for 25+ years, with someone accountable for it for at least the first 10.

What we commit to

Six commitments we make on every install

The renewable energy industry has a deserved reputation for sales-led pricing tricks and disappearing installers. These commitments are the operating practices we use to be the opposite.

Fixed-price written quote

Our quote is the price you pay. No survey-day surprises, no install-day adjustments, no scope creep. Where extra work is genuinely needed (rare — typically only on listed buildings or unusual electrical supplies), we flag it before any commitment.

In-house engineers only

Every install is delivered by our own MCS, NICEIC, Gas Safe and Heat Geek certified engineers. We don't subcontract. That means the engineer who designed your system is the one who installs it, and the one who comes back if anything needs aftercare.

Honest about limits

If a heat pump doesn't fit your home, we tell you. If your roof aspect doesn't justify solar, we tell you. If your existing boiler is fine for another five years, we tell you. We install five service categories specifically so we can recommend the right answer rather than the only answer.

One point of contact

You call one number. The person who answers can see your full project history — quote, survey notes, install date, warranty registrations. No "let me transfer you to the technical team."

All paperwork handled

BUS grant, OZEV grant, DNO notification, MCS registration, Building Control, Listed Building consent, SEG registration, manufacturer warranty registration. You sign one piece of paper; we do the rest.

Pragmatic timing

We work around your life. Same-week installs for urgent boiler failures. Shoulder-season installs for non-urgent heat pumps. Half-term scheduling for schools. Out-of-hours commissioning for commercial sites. We tell you what the realistic timeline looks like upfront and we stick to it.
