How to pay for your install

Solar, heat pumps, batteries, EV chargers and boilers are substantial purchases. Cash from savings remains the cheapest route, and there are several grant routes that reduce what you pay in the first place — the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme for heat pumps, ECO4 and Warm Homes for eligible households, and capital allowances for businesses.

How homeowners pay for an AMP install

1. Cash from savings

The simplest and cheapest route. Solar in particular has unusually strong cash-deployment economics — the typical 6-9 year payback and 25-year revenue stream is among the highest-return uses of savings available to UK households in 2026 outside specialist investment products.

2. Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant

For heat pumps, the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is available to eligible homeowners in England and Wales. We apply on your behalf and deduct it from the quote, so you only ever fund the balance — it is not something you claim back later.

3. Household grant schemes

For lower-income households, ECO4, the Home Upgrade Grant and the Warm Homes Local Grant can fund significant portions of solar, insulation and heat-pump installs. Eligibility depends on income, benefits status, EPC rating and property type. We check eligibility on every survey at no cost.

4. OZEV grant for EV chargers

The £350 OZEV EV chargepoint grant is available for eligible flats and rental properties. We handle the claim and credit it against your final invoice. Single-house owners are not eligible — the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme closed to them in March 2022.

Commercial customers

How businesses pay for an AMP commercial install

1. Capital purchase with Annual Investment Allowance

Standard route for cash-rich businesses. Pay capital up front; claim the full Annual Investment Allowance (£1m AIA threshold) plus capital allowances on any balance. For a limited company at 25% Corporation Tax rate, this drops effective net cost by ~25% in year one. Best long-term ROI.

2. Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)

Zero up-front cost. A third party owns the array on your roof and sells you the generated electricity at a fixed per-kWh rate below your retail price, typically with 1-3% annual escalator over 20-25 years. Strongest fit for large installs (200kW+) on stable long-tenure sites. We arrange the PPA with vetted partners.

3. Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme

For schools, NHS estates, councils and housing associations, PSDS Phase 4 funds up to 100% of capital cost for qualifying heat pump + supporting renewables projects. Annual application rounds; we scope and prepare bids alongside the design package. Bid-to-handover timescale typically 9-15 months.

4. Full expensing on qualifying plant

Above the AIA cap, full expensing allows companies to write off 100% of qualifying plant and machinery against taxable profits in the year of purchase. Relevant for larger commercial arrays and multi-site rollouts. We size the specification alongside your accountant so the allowances land in the right accounting period.

How to choose

Picking the right payment route

The honest decision tree for most customers:

  1. 1. Are you eligible for any grants? Check first — the £7,500 BUS grant for heat pumps, ECO4 / HUG / Warm Homes for lower-income households, OZEV grant for EV chargers in flats. We check for free during the survey.
  2. 2. Do you have the cash and another use for it? Cash savings in instant-access accounts earn 4-5% gross in 2026. Solar pays back at the equivalent of 12-18% on the same capital. Cash from savings is almost always the better deployment unless you have a higher-return alternative.
  3. 3. Commercial site with cap-ex constraints? A PPA works for large stable sites with low capital appetite. Where you do hold capital, the Annual Investment Allowance and full expensing usually make outright purchase the strongest return.
  4. 4. Public sector? PSDS Phase 4 can fund up to 100% of qualifying capital cost. Application rounds are annual, so plan the design package around the bid window.

We talk customers through their specific situation as part of every survey — no high-pressure sales, and a fixed-price written quote either way.
