Payment options

How to pay for your install

Solar, heat pumps, batteries, EV chargers and boilers are substantial purchases. Cash from savings remains the cheapest route, but it's not the only option — 0% finance on selected packages, green mortgages, asset finance for commercial, and several grant routes for residential.

Residential customers

Five ways homeowners pay for an AMP install

1. Cash from savings

The simplest and cheapest route — no interest, no monthly payments, no credit applications. Solar in particular has unusually strong cash-deployment economics — the typical 6-9 year payback and 25-year revenue stream is among the highest-return uses of savings available to UK households in 2026 outside specialist investment products.

2. 0% finance (selected packages)

We offer 0% APR finance on selected solar, battery and EV charger packages — typically 12-24 month repayment terms, subject to status and affordability checks. Useful where you have the income but not the lump sum, and want to spread the cost without paying interest. Available through our consumer credit partner; not all packages or applicants qualify.

3. Home improvement loans

Third-party personal loans typically run 8-12% APR for energy efficiency improvements. At these rates the monthly loan payment is usually below the monthly bill saving from the install — the system pays for itself from day one. We don't sell these directly but happy to recommend brokers we trust.

4. Green mortgages

Several mortgage lenders offer rate discounts or additional borrowing capacity for properties with renewable upgrades. NatWest, Halifax, Nationwide, Barclays and Coventry Building Society all have variants. Worth speaking to your mortgage broker before committing — sometimes the borrowing is genuinely better-priced than a separate loan or unsecured finance.

5. Grants

For heat pumps, the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is automatic for eligible homeowners — we apply on your behalf and deduct it from the quote. For lower-income households, ECO4, Home Upgrade Grant and Warm Homes Local Grant can fund significant portions of solar, insulation and heat-pump installs. We check eligibility for every survey at no cost.

Commercial customers

Four ways businesses pay for an AMP commercial install

1. Capital purchase with Annual Investment Allowance

Standard route for cash-rich businesses. Pay capital up front; claim the full Annual Investment Allowance (£1m AIA threshold) plus capital allowances on any balance. For a limited company at 25% Corporation Tax rate, this drops effective net cost by ~25% in year one. Best long-term ROI.

2. Asset finance (HP or lease)

Spread cap-ex over 5-10 years at fixed monthly rate. Typically structured so monthly payment is below monthly energy savings — the install is cash-flow positive from month one. We work with three asset finance partners and can structure a quote inside a week.

3. Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)

Zero up-front cost. A third party owns the array on your roof and sells you the generated electricity at a fixed per-kWh rate below your retail price, typically with 1-3% annual escalator over 20-25 years. Strongest fit for large installs (200kW+) on stable long-tenure sites. We arrange the PPA with vetted partners.

4. Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme

For schools, NHS estates, councils and housing associations, PSDS Phase 4 funds up to 100% of capital cost for qualifying heat pump + supporting renewables projects. Annual application rounds; we scope and prepare bids alongside the design package. Bid-to-handover timescale typically 9-15 months.

How to choose

Picking the right payment route

The honest decision tree for most customers:

  1. 1. Are you eligible for any grants? Check first — the £7,500 BUS grant for heat pumps, ECO4 / HUG / Warm Homes for lower-income households, OZEV grant for EV chargers in flats. We check for free during the survey.
  2. 2. Do you have the cash and other use for it? Cash savings in instant-access accounts earn 4-5% gross in 2026. Solar pays back at the equivalent of 12-18% on the same capital. Cash from savings is almost always the better deployment unless you have a higher-return alternative.
  3. 3. Don't have the cash but want to spread the cost? Compare 0% finance (where available on our packages) against a green mortgage rate top-up. Green mortgages often beat 0% finance when factored over a long mortgage term.
  4. 4. Commercial site with cap-ex constraints? Asset finance keeps balance-sheet pressure low. PPA works for large stable sites with low capital appetite. Both let the install be cash-flow positive from day one.

We talk customers through their specific situation as part of every survey — no commission on finance referrals, no high-pressure sales of expensive products. Where cash isn't the right answer, we'll honestly say which alternative fits.
